At approximately 0100 on 14 May 2012 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated after reports that a person had entered the water in the Haymarket area of the town. On arrival to the boat house the crew quickly launched the D-class boat to begin searching the area. A jeep with Coast Guard Personnel was also sent to search the area. The person in question had been found by the Drogheda Gardai . The crew stood down and returned to the boat house.
Call Out 13 of 2012
At approximately 0700 on 12 May 2012 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. The Gardai had requested our assistance after a report of a person in the water near the Haymarket area. The crew mustered at the station and quickly launched the D-class boat to begin searching the area. As they began to search the Gardai informed NMOC that they had taken the person safely away from the water’s edge. The Boat was stood down at this point and returned to the boathouse.
Call Out 12 of 2012
On 18 Apr 2012 at approximately 19.40 the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were alerted to an incident while training on the River Boyne. Two members of the public informed the team that a person had fallen from Dominic’s Bridge. The D-class boat which was already in the water quickly went to the scene to assess the situation. First aid was administered to the casualty while ambulance and Fire personnel were requested.
After the HSE ambulance was on scene the casualty was stabilised and placed onto the boat. The casualty and paramedic were transferred by water to Horse Lane and into the waiting ambulance. The casualty received further medical treatment in the Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
The Drogheda Coast Guard Unit would like to thank the young members of the public who alerted the unit. Their quick thinking saved this casualty from any further injury.
Call Out 11 of 2012
On 14 Apr 2012 at 18.40 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. NMOC had received information that a car with two people was stuck in sand at Mornington with an incoming tide. The Drogheda team quickly mustered at the Boat house and the D-Class boat was launched. The location of the incident was at the South Trading wall at Mornington. A jeep with two personnel was sent immediately to the location. Another Coast Guard jeep followed shortly after with more personnel and equipment. The two individuals from the car were taken to safety and the car was towed out of the water and later removed from the beach.
The crew returned to the boat house to clean all gear used and make ready for the next incident.
Call Out 10 of 2012
On 11 Apr 2012 at approximately 00.45 the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit was tasked. NMOC had been contacted by Drogheda Garda Station and informed that a person had entered the water at Dominic’s Park. On arrival to the boat house the crew quickly launched the D-class boat and a jeep with Coast Guard Personnel was sent to the area. The Drogheda Gardai recovered the person beside the river bank. The crew stood down and returned to the boat house.
Call Out 9 of 2012
On 22 Mar 2012 at approximately 1840 the Drogheda Coast Guard pagers were activated. The Garda Siochana had contacted NMOC with a missing persons report. The Gardai had located a car belonging to the missing person at the Curly Hole, Townley Hall.
The Drogheda Unit assembled at the boathouse and quickly moved to the incident site where a boat and land search commenced. Rescue 116 also assisted with the search.
The next two days the unit stayed on site and continued searching both land and water in the surrounding area. The missing person was located in the forest area Saturday afternoon. Because the area where he was located was difficult to get to by land Rescue 116 was task to help remove the casualty to Drogheda Hospital. The casualty was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Drogheda Coast Guard Unit would like to extend its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
Call Out 8 of 2012
At 1950 on 01 Mar 2012 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. Two teenage boys were stranded on a small island on an artificial lake near Dunleer.
The crew quickly mustered at the boathouse and prepared equipment to be transported to the incident. In addition R116 were also tasked to the area.
On arrival the two teenagers were located on the island and a tender with Coast Guard crew rowed over to the two boys. After a quick assessment of each casualty the boat team brought them back to safety. During this time R116 was on scene.
An HSE ambulance from Drogheda checked the 2 teenagers and they were then released to their relieved families.
Also in attendance was Dunleer Gardai and Clogherhead Coast Guard.
Call Out 7 of 2012
Drogheda Coast Guard was tasked on 27 Feb 2012 at 1737 to Bettystown. Gardai had requested the Coast Guard after reports of a person in the sea.
The unit quickly assembled at the boat house and launched the D-class, In addition a mobile unit with 2 crew went to the scene.
At 17.50 the crew were stood down after the person had been brought to safety by Garda personnel.
Call Out 6 of 2012
On 15 Feb 2012 at 0018 Drogheda Coast Guard were contacted by NMOC in relation to a car stuck in Bettystown beach. A mobile unit with two volunteers were dispatched to the scene where the car was located. The mobile unit successfully pulled the car to safety and returned to Drogheda. The crew were stood down by 0100.
Call Out 5 of 2012
At 16:49, Sunday 12 Feb 2012 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. NMOC had received reports of a fisherman missing in Dundalk Bay around the Soldiers Point area. The Drogheda Coast Guard boat and crew were immediately transferred to Salterstown slipway and the D-class was launched.
After the boat was launched the land crew were relocated to Soldiers Point. Just before 18:00 the Clogherhead RNLI Life Boat located a small vessel partly submerged which was confirmed to be the missing fisherman’s boat. Drogheda CG D-Class boat crew continued to search from Pile Light up towards Soldiers Point against the ebbing tide. The Drogheda crew recovered the victim not long after 18:00. The casualty was taken to Dundalk Harbour and with the assistance of Dundalk Fire and Rescue Service the casualty was removed from the boat to an awaiting HSE ambulance.
Also on scene were Greenore and Clogherhead Coast Guard, Clogherhead and Kilkeel RNLI, Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 116 and Dundalk Search and Rescue.
The unit with the assistance of Dundalk Fire and Rescue Service recovered the d-class boat at the harbour.
Drogheda Coast Guard unit would like to extend its sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the fisherman and may he RIP.
Call Out 4 of 2012
On Sunday 12 Feb 2012 at approximately 11.30 the Gardai contacted NMOC to request assistance to two jet skiers who were speeding along the Docks area. Drogheda Coast Guard volunteer unit members advised the two individuals of the speed limit that is in operation in the port area. The individuals took this under advisement for future trips into the Drogheda Harbour. The Harbour Master Captain Martin Donnelly also advised the individuals of the bylaws.

On 29 Jan 2012 at 16:55 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. The Gardai had requested our assistance after a report of a male jumping from the Bridge Of Peace. As the crew mustered at the station to launch the D-Class boat the unit were stood down. A Garda had pulled the individual to safety.
Call Out 2 of 2012
On 21 Jan 2012 the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were tasked to assist in the search of a local Navan male who had been missing since Monday 16 Jan 2012.
The volunteers mustered at the Meath Civil Defence Base in Navan for a briefing. The Drogheda Coast Guard crews searched the river and land in and around Navan along side the Meath and Louth Civil Defence teams.
After an extensive search of the area on the day nothing was found. On the 29th January a person kayaking near Slane came across the missing males body. May he RIP.
Call Out 1 of 2012
At 2357 on 01 January 2012 the pagers of the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit were activated. NMOC had been give reports of a male in distress heading to the River Boyne. The unit quickly launched the boat on this cold night to begin an immediate search of the River Boyne from the viaduct travelling west. Three land teams were also deployed to different areas around the river to conduct a land search. These areas included Donore’s Green, the area behind the AIB Bank, Dominic’s Park and along the ramparts on the north side of the river near the Drogheda Coast Guard Boat House.
In addition the Garda Siochana Drogheda were out looking for the individual and an ambulance from Drogheda was on scene. In addition to the Drogheda Coast Guard boat the Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Servicelaunched two boats to help in the water search. Rescue 116 (R116) was also tasked to the incident as it has heat seeking capabilities on board.
The search had been continuing for over an hour when the Garda Siochana had confirmed that they had located the male and had him in their custody.
The crew and R116 were stood down at this point (0105). The boat and land teams returned to base where the equipment was washed down and made ready for the next incident.
